The July 9th, 2016 membership meeting of the Kanawha Amateur Radio Club, Inc., (KARC) was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.

Social Time occurred, however, due to change of date for the KARC meeting, the room location was revised and the Program for the evening will be delivered at a future club meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Jim Stephenson, WV8JS, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & COMMENTS:

   ** Flood Report – Jim, WV8JS, reported 344 counties have some degree of flooding. Amateur Radio (ARES®) was not alerted
         because the land/cell phones were operational.   On the air communication was available on 3810 and 7235 kHz.

         ARRL called for a report of the flood situation and if support was needed.   Greenbrier/Nicholas Counties appears to be the
       most hit disaster area (Rainelle, Ruphart, Greenbrier Golf Course, Richwood, etc.) Kanawha county have about 1,000 displaced
         (Sissonville, Elkview, Clendenin, etc.)

** ARES® County Emergency Coordinators (EC) - Jim, WV8JS report only about 24 counties in WV have an ARRL appointed          
       Emergency Coordinator and there is a need for the open counties to attempt to fill this position.

MINUTES: Ann, KA8ZGY, presented minutes of the June 3rd, 2016 KARC Membership meeting which were accepted as presented.

      

TREASURER REPORT: Ann, KA8ZGY, presented the treasurers report for June, 2016 with FD expenditures, website fee, business license fee and credits for FD donations, dues resulting in checking account balance of $7287.96. There are still two outstanding checks and an invoice for Portable Restroom. It was moved, seconded, and approve the treasurers report be accepted as presented.                        Current membership is 60.       50/50 drawing = $21.00 full donation.

KARC EQUIPMENT (National Parks on the Air Day) May 14, 2016: The committee reports the mission was great; many contacts were confirmed; antenna were hung from bridge Committee: Randy, N8XEA; Mark, KM8G; Dave, W8IW; Edsil, KA8ISQ; and Terry, WV8V. Daniel Cummings, KC8ZXH, reports he some video of the event and will plan to share at future meeting.

 

KARC COMMUNICATION TRAILER: TABLED at May meeting –Jim, WV8JS, reports Edsil, KA8ISQ, is continuing to search for possible good used 20 foot trailer.    KARC ACCEPTING DONATIONS for purchase of trailer.

KARC STANDING AND AD HOC COMMITTEES: Jim, WV8JS, reports no changes in committee structure at this time. (Note change in Chairs and Committee members)

Property Committee: It was reported there had been donation of equipment of tower, rotor, amplified, etc. which was older equipment .   It was noted that this equipment would need to be checked for reliability/usefulness. No further action at this time.

FIELD DAY (FD) June 24-26, 2016: Jason, W8KTM – estimated contacts 7,000; good participation with the flood situation; antenna needs repair; rotator-control needs replaced; U-Haul Vans need assistance with cooling, van air condition?, cost less and better for location; current trailer housed FD equipment. Discussion of finding a new more public exposure location for 2017.

Jim, WV8JS appointed Jason, W8KTM, as Chair of FD Location Committee – Jason to select his committee members.

WV ARMY National Guard: Jim, WV8JS, reports the WV Army National Guard has been appointed as a Served agency with working with the Siren Network Communications. Plan in install on-site HF/2Meter stations, at present using NTIA frequencies.

At present only two (2) helicopters with HF communications. Also, plan to install a loop on the roof of the armory.

DONATED EQUIPMENT: Terry, WV8V, reports collection of equipment from a current amateur and will be available to view
and bidding at the next meeting.   This equipment is 30+ years of age: Cushcraft beam; Rotator/control original box; vertical multiband antenna; Japan 2000 UL amplifier.
