The May 4th, 2018 membership meeting of the Kanawha Amateur Radio Club, Inc., (KARC) was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.Social Time: 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Program: ARRL FIELD DAY (FD) June 23-24, 2018 – Mark Kozar, KM8G Presenting – Mark gave an overview of the ARRL Field Day 2018 Rules regarding date/time; Categories; Mics. Rules; Scoring; Bonus Points; Reporting, and W1AW Bulletin. He also share past experiences from FD,

and distributed a list for ‘VOLUNTEERS’ to sign up for activities during the FD Set-up/Operation/Take Down. He encouraged all to attend the Jun 1st, 2018 FD update meeting at Coonskin Park, Site 73.

MEMBERSHIP Meeting: The membership meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Terry Sanner, WV8V, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and introduction of attendees.

Minutes: Ann, KA8ZGY, distributed the minutes of the April 6th, 2018 Membership meeting, which were reviewed and accepted as presented.

 

Treasurers/Finance Committee Report: Alan, KB8VDA, absent – no report.

BUSINESS SESSION:

 

CUB Scouts: Terry, WV8V, announced that KARC has been asked to present a 45 minute amateur radio program to the Cub Scouts during the week of June 4-8, 2018. These will be all day/groups and plan to set-up a 2 meter station and have QSL Cards. Fred, WV8FV, has volunteered to assist.

Contact Terry, WV8V, if want to volunteer and talk with cub scouts.

2018 Standing and AD Hoc Committees: attached to back of minutes: Terry, WV8V, reviewed the list noting the need for a volunteer committee chairperson for the Electro-Magnetic Interference Committee (E-MI), and the Historian. As Historian, there are several file cabinets of KARC record which will need to be stored.

Field Day (FD) QSL Cards / Equipment: Terry, WV8V, is requesting information of the location of the FD QSL cards, Betty Hunter, KA8MLP is looking through K8BS files. Terry is recommending a committee to design a QSL card for KARC – W8GK, and Russ, KE8DMB has volunteer to initiate.

 

Field Day (FD) Pre- Planning Meeting: Scheduled for Panera Bread, Southridge, May 10th, 2018 at 6:00 PM – everyone is welcome.

KARC June Meeting:  Scheduled for Coonskin Park, Site 73.   Bring your own refreshments.

Communication Trailer: Discussion to continue to search for available trailers with reasonable price range and meet KARC requirements.

Repeater Site: Terry, WV8V, reports no update on keys to the repeater site.

W8GK Trustee:   Terry, WV8V reports Jim Damron, N8TMW, has accepted and has finalized the ARRL requirements for W8GK Trustee.

NEW BUSINESS:

ARRL All Hix W8AH Scholarship Fund: Terry, WV8V, reports that ARRL has notified the KARC there is only $725.00 dollars remaining in the Scholarship Fund and will need to submit an additional $285.00 dollars to complete this year’s fund. After discussion, It was moved by Dave, W8IW, seconded by Steve, W8KRA and approved to send $285.00 to ARRL for completion this year and to discontinue the scholarship fund.

Terry will notify Alan, KB8VDA to send check to ARRL.

There being no other business the meeting was adjourned.   (Attendance 17)
