The November 2nd, 2018 membership meeting of the Kanawha Amateur Radio Club, Inc., (KARC) was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.
Social Time - 5:30 PM: Enjoyed by attendees.

Program – 6:00 PM: TOPIC - Satellite Contact - Presenter – John Smith, KI4RO, Harts, WV – John presented with consent, detailed information from slides developed by N6UA which related to satellite size (4” x 4” x 4” square + antennas); weight < 3 lbs.; moving at 16,000 mph; view of AMSAT online Schedule; ISS Detector; Gnome Predict; uplink and downlink (UHF/VHF); demo of Arrow II Satellite Antenna (2 Elements VHF/7 Elements UHF); demo of Elk Antenna (UHF/VHF); software; and shared a recording of an actual satellite QSO. Great presentation.

MEMBERSHIP Meeting – 7:15PM: The membership meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM by President, Terry Sanner, WV8V, followed by the introduction of those attending and Pledge of Allegiance.

** CPR/FIRST AID Course: Terry WV8V, announced information from Dave Carey, Friday, November 9, 2018 KCEAA, 6:00 PM, cost $20.00. If interested contact Terry. Ann, KA8ZGY, will send IMPORTANT announcement to KARC email lists this evening.

MINUTES: Ann, KA8ZGY, distributed the minutes of October 5th, 2018 meeting.

Communication Trailer (NEW): Terry, WV8V, confirmed purchase of 7’ X 16’ trailer with storage box on tongue for $3,800.00, and is housed at Coonskin Park secure area. He reported that the KARC is unable to Title the trailer at this time due to title information issues which is being addressed with the former owner. Discussion occurred related to the KARC old trailer, i.e. should we keep or sell. Motion by Paul, W8SBH, when possible to move equipment from old trailer to new trailer, clean up the old trailer and sell; Seconded by Dave, W8IW. Motion approved.

Additional discussion related to Air conditioning and/heater for the new trailer and estimated cost $800.00 - $900.00 would be needed. Rodney, KE8KNW, indicated he would check with his workplace to see what may be available, and report the information to Terry.

Repeater: Terry reported Jim, WB8YST and Jeff Clark, K8JAC, will be coordination the repairs at the repeater site.

Nominating Committee: Fred, WV8FV, committee chair presented Slate of Officers as: President Terry, WV8V; Vice President - pending; Secretary, Ann, KA8ZGY; Treasurer: Alan, KB8VDA; Program Chair: Russ. KE8DMB; Publicity Chair: Paul, W8SBH with request of any member wishing to be included to contact Fred. No further action at this time, with election at December 7th meeting

General Cram Course: Terry, WV8V, announced General Cram Course held on October 27, 2018 had four participants with two passing, and an additional amateur setting for the General exam who passes.

Technician CRAM COURSE: Terry, WV8V, announced a Technician Cram Course scheduled for Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at KCEAA, 8:00 AM.

JOTA: Terry, WV8V, reported the JOTA event scheduled October 20th, 2018 Coonskin Park was a failure, as apparently the local scouts troops were not notified of the event and/or location, therefore no scouts showing for the event, however, Fred, WV8FV, set-up his trailer and made contacts with other JOTA groups throughout the US. Other KARC member’s indicated also making contact with other JOTA groups.

Boy Scout Merit Badge (Code): Terry, WV8V, reports no recent contact with scout troop wanting code classes, No further action at this time.

Treasurers/Finance Committee Report: Alan, KB8VDA, presented the November 2nd, 2018 financial report with $3,800.00 expense as trailer purchase; no income; balance of $1,816.01 with $438.00 being the Trailer Fund. It was moved by Rodney, KE8KNW, seconded by Dave, W8IW, to accept treasurer’s report as presented; Motion carried.
WVSARC Booklet/Booster Page: Alan, KB8VDA, to send reimbursement check to Ann, KA8ZGY, for KARC ad in Convention Booklet ($20.00).

KARC Website: Terry, WV8V, reports looking at another website and reviewed Gate.com website with fee of about $99.00 a year. Fred, WV8FV, will follow up with Gate.com to confirm how files may be transferred from the current site.   Ann, KA8ZGY, will let Terry know date of current Domain renewal.

Putnam County VE Exams: Terry, WV8V, reports Mike Maxson, W8SI, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , indicated the start of ARRL VE Exams in Putman County will be held at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM.   Please share this information.

Installation of Officers Dinner Meeting: Terry, WV8V, will confirm availability of the KCEAA on our regular 1st Friday, January 4th to hold the Installation of Officers Dinner Meeting, and report at the December 7th, 2018.

There being no other business, it was moved by Dave, seconded by Fred and approved the meeting was adjourned.   (Attendance 19)
