The May 3rd, 2019 Kanawha Amateur Radio Club (KARC) meeting was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.
Social Time - 6:00 – 6:30 PM: KARC members and guest gathered for amateur and other information sharing.

PROGRAM: WHY AMATEUR RADIO: Russ, KE8DMB, shared the many things you can do with amateur radio i.e. talk around the world; talk through satellites; send messages in Morse code; become a weather spotter; become licensed through FCC; select the right club for you; become a volunteer examiner; enjoy talking with others, etc. For more information-Google–Amateur Radio or visit www.arrl.org .

MEMBERSHIP Meeting : The membership meeting was called to order at 6:25 PM by Vice President, Fred Vickers, WV8FV, followed by the introduction of those present and the Pledge of Allegiance.

CPR/FIRST AID Course: If interested in a course, notify Terry, WV8V, and he will arrange, 10 participants are needed.      

** NET CONTROLS –ARES®/RACES Sunday Net – on HOLD: Mike, W8SI, will notify when appointment for Kanawha County occurs.

   ** Kanawha ARES®: meetings held third (3rd) Thursday of the month at the 911 Center. KARC Nets will collect and pass ARES® info.

   ** Putnam County VE Group: Test sessions are held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the CAMC Teays Valley Hospital, 7:00 PM.

   ** Coal County ARC: “Parks on the Air” event, June 1st at Chief Logan State Park, a family picnic along with a foxhunt for everybody.

   ** Jackson Co. ARC HAMFEST: Sunday, May 5th, 2019, Ripley Middle School, Ripley, WV

   ** WVSARC: ARRL WV State Convention planning meeting at the Jackson C., Hamfest, 10:30 AM – all WV amateurs are members.

Minutes: Ann, KA8ZGY, distributed minutes of April 5th, 2019 KARC membership meeting. It was moved to accept minutes by Dave, W8IW, seconded by Jennifer, KE8JXD, and motion carried.
Treasurers Report: Jennifer, KE8JXD, reported City National checking balance of $2, 283.72, (Membership $1,019.47 and Trailer $1,264.25). Motion by Dave, W8IW, seconded by Steve, KD8VNN, to accept treasurer’s report as presented, motion passes. Membership 48 + 1+ 49.

WV AuxCom Training; Fred, WV8FV, reports AuxCom Training in Parkersburg had 14 complete course with some to provide other information. The group wants 20 to register for the Charleston course - Contact is Jim Mangus to register and send him copy of certificates and amateur license. Requirements are ICS 100/200/700/800 – must produce certificate of completion to attend.
Communication Trailer (NEW): Fred, WV8FV, reports still issues with cleared title – will contact previous owner to resolve. Plan to bring trailer to Coonskin Park Site 73 for June 7th FIELD DAY planning meeting.

Repeater: No update. Jim, WB8YST; Jeff, K8JAC and Jim, N8TMW with coordinate the repairs at the site.

Boy & Girl Scouts: No update. Terry, WV8V, awaiting contact from scouts for Morse code training.

NWS: No update. Terry, WV8V, awaiting follow up from Tony Edwards, KJ4FYM on planning NWS/Amateur event and possibly, a Skywarn Refresher course.
2019 KARC Program Suggestion: Russ, KE8DMB, Program Manager – contact Russ with suggestions for monthly program or volunteer.

School Amateur Radio Education: Steve, KD8VNN – contact Steve to volunteer to help for 2 meter demos – school ending….

KARC QSL Cards: Fred, WV8FV, showed similar care and Betty found about 1,000 current cards - will not need to replace with a new card.

PEAK to PEAK: No update. Still planning on the 2 meter Simplex operation sometime soon, more information in near future.

KARC Field Day (FD) Equipment: Fred, WV8FV, reports still looking for controlled environment for FD equipment room.

Ball Point Pens with KARC Logo: Discussion and tabled at this time.
