The September 6th, 2019 Kanawha Amateur Radio Club (KARC) meeting was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.


Social Time - 6:00 – 6:30 PM: KARC members and guest gathered for amateur radio and other information sharing.

PROGRAM: Radio Shack: Stan Morgan, Radio Shack, Kanawha City: stand shared an overview of the history of Radio Shack: Originated the catalog sales in Boston in 1939; 1954-1955 opened eight (8) stores with 40,000 pieces of inventory;1962 purchased by Tandy Products but kept Radio Shack name - additional 19 stores, started giveaway’s at the stores, i.e. floppy disks; Closed mail order business and house credit accounts; 1975 brought in new products, Realistic. Tandy, FRS Radios – this was the beginning of the CB Radio explosion; 1977 added computers; 1982 Telephones & Stereos, 1984 CD Players; 1990 purchases Allied Radio Parts; 1980 Tandy built computer plant in Texas; Built the Incredible Universe Box stores – not profitable – sold/liquidated; pjm.com program which defines where power needs to go to meet needs; 2005 included Version’s Cell; 2005 included AT&T – not good program; 1994 Direct TV; 1998 largest consumer outlet in electronics with stores worldwide; 500 hundred stores with franchise; out of bankruptcy 2017; Kanawha City has the local store; first store in WV was in Logan -   Don’t forget to visit the Radio Shack in Kanawha City.

 

MEMBERSHIP Meeting : The membership meeting was called to order President, Terry Sanner, WV8V, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and introduction of those attending.

Announcements    

   ** WVSARC: ARRL WV State Convention – Ann, KA8ZGY gave overview of the events for the weekend, attendance, and many good
         programs, forums.   Terry reported two (2) candidates for VE Testing with one passing technician and general class plus winning the
         1st and 2nd Major prizes.

   ** Tri-State Hamfest Huntington, WV - Terry reported four (4) candidates for VE Testing

   ** Coal Country Hamfest, Madison, WV – Terry reports scheduled September 21st – handouts available.

Minutes: Ann, KA8ZGY, distributed minutes of August 2nd, 2019 KARC membership meeting. Minutes were reviewed with motion by Jennifer, KE8JXD, seconded by Steve, KD8VNN, to approve minutes as presented and reviewed, motion accepted.

Treasurers Report: Tracy, KC8VMG, reporting for Jennifer, KE8JXD, reports City National checking balance of $1,700.53 (Membership $372.18 and Trailer $1,328.25). It was moved by Russ, KD8DMB, seconded by Steve, KD8VNN and approved to accept as presented.
KARC Membership to date is 55.

ARRL Kanawha County Emergency Coordinator (EC) – Terry announced and introduced Paul Whited, KB8YZT, and the new EC and the ARES® Meetings with be back on full function.   Please welcome Paul.

Communications Trailer: Terry reports that Joe, WV8WVU, has met with Megan, Kent Carpers Secretary to review the current status of the title/vin #/ bill of sale so as to help secure a proper title for the KARC – more updates to come. Next is to plan layout of the inside.

IRS- 501-C-3 – Terry reports receiving letter from IRS regarding failure to file for 2019 and the 501-C-3 is suspended for not. Terry indicates Joe, WV8WVU will follow up to define action to take.

There being no other business, moved Dave, W8IV, seconded Fred, WV8FV and approved, the meeting be adjourned.   (Attendance 16)

STANDING COMMITTEES:

A.KARC shall have the following standing committees:

B. The President may create and establish adhoc committees from time to time as necessary. (See listings below)

C.All standing committees and adhoc committees shall keep written minutes of their meetings and shall file the same with the KARC Secretary.  All committees shall consist of at least three (3) members unless specified otherwise. A committee may have members other than Full Members, but only Full Members shall be entitled to vote on any matter. Aquorum for Committee meetings shall be the attendance of at least two( 2) committee members. A member shall serve on no more than two (2) committees.
