KARC LETTER BANNER

The October 4th, 2019 Kanawha Amateur Radio Club (KARC) meeting was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.
Social Time - 6:00 – 6:30 PM: KARC members and guest gathered for amateur radio and other information sharing.

PROGRAM: Satellite Sputnik - Scott Blake, Kanawha Valley Astronomical Society, Camp Virgil Tate:
(History changed on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I, the world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a beach ball ...) Sputnik 1 had two frequencies, and was the first man made object into space. Sputnik projected signal which America tracked, and the last flight ended in January 2th, 1958. It was so small, it was unable to see in space. In January 1958 America’s Employer 1 was launched.   – Members interested in more information/activities should contact the Astronomical Society.

MEMBERSHIP Meeting : The membership meeting was called to order President, Terry Sanner, WV8V, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and introduction of those attending.

Announcements    

   ** WVSARC: ARRL WV State Convention Planning Meeting – Parkersburg Hamfest, October 12, 2019, 11:00 AM, Mineral Wells WV.

   ** VE Cram Course: September 28, 2019 had no candidates.

   ** ARRL WV Section Convention/Charleston Hamfest: scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2020 – more to come. Volunteers needed.

Minutes: Ann, KA8ZGY, distributed minutes of Sept. 18th, 2019 KARC BOD, and Sept. 6th, 2019 KARC membership meeting. All minutes were reviewed with motion by Dave, W8IW, seconded by Fred, WV8FV to approve minutes as presented and reviewed, motion accepted.

Treasurers Report: Jennifer, KE8JXD, reports expenditure of $40.00 monthly storage fee (Membership $372.38 and Trailer $1,680.63). It was moved by Terry, WV8V, seconded by Rod, KE8KNW, and approved to accept as presented.     KARC Membership to date is 55.

AUXComm: Terry, WV8V, reports Jim WB8YST, is working with Paul, W8SBH to send notification flyer to the WV Clubs related to the future WV AuxCom classes, and the need for the NiM’s courses to attend.

Communications Trailer: Terry reports that Joe, WV8WVU, has met with Megan, Kent Carpers Secretary to review the current status of the title/vin #/ bill of sale so as to help secure a proper title for the KARC – more updates to come. Next is to plan layout inside trailer.

IRS- 501-C-3: Joe, Wv8WVU, reports the 501-C-3 is suspended and will cost $600.00 to reestablish. Discussion occurred, related to if needed, developing grants, and cost. It was moved by Steve, KD8VNN to transfer $600.00 from trailer fund to complete 501-C-3 application, seconded by Rod, KE8KNW, and further discussion occurred. Call for vote to motion which FAILED.

NEW BUSINESS

KARC Caps /w Logo: Joe, WV8WVU, reports he has a vendor that will place KARC Logo on Cap for $15.00, and personalize back of cap with call and name for $20.00. There is possibility of also having Shirts with KARC logo and name. Contact Joe if interested.

Field Day (FD) Cables: Clay, W8LW, shared he had made cable cradles to help suspend cables from the shelter roof beams, thus keeping cables off the floor, providing improved safety. All thanked Clay, and will check out at FD planning meeting in June 2020.

There being no other business, it was moved Joe, WV8WVU, seconded Steve, KD8VNN and approved, the meeting be adjourned. (Attendance 24)
