KARC LETTER BANNER

 

The November 1st, 2019 Kanawha Amateur Radio Club (KARC) meeting was held at the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), 601 Brooks St., Charleston, WV, 25301.
Social Time - 6:00 – 6:30 PM: KARC members and guest gathered for amateur radio and other information sharing.

Tony reported the PRIORITY #1 is Safety – Protect yourself and your family. He noted there are several levels of Tornado’s with 6EF being the severest. Flooding can cause the most deaths. The ROLE of the Spotter is to Provide Accurate Reports which is integral part of the NWS warning process (on the ground reports). The NWS radar points upward, therefore need the ground reports. The report should indicate Who is reporting; What is being reported; When occurred; Where located. – information may be tornado, funnel cloud, wall clouds, hail, storm damage, flooding, heavy rainfall, wind…Thunderstorms focus is looking for multicell, supercell and funnel clouds. In the winter report snow, sleet, freezing rain and changes in conditions. Tony indicates the Winter Outlook is warmer than usual with above normal precipitation. Online classes: https://www.weather.gov/rlx/skywarn   - about 2hr with test.

MEMBERSHIP Meeting : The membership meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM bu President, Terry Sanner, WV8V, followed by the introduction of those attending and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Announcements    

   ** Communication Trailer Title: Terry reported the title has been cleared and received. Letter of thanks was sent to Kent Carper and
         Megan Deihl for all the time and work in helping to secure a full title.

   ** WVSARC: ARRL WV State Convention Planning Meeting – Parkersburg Hamfest, October 12, 2019, 11:00 AM, Mineral Wells WV, with
         Ann reporting making good progress with next meeting at ARRL WV Section Convention / Charleston Hamfest, March 14, 2020/

   ** ARRL WV Section Convention/Charleston Hamfest: scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2020 – more to come. Next meeting is
         December 43th, 2019 at Shoney’s Restaurant 5:30 PM - Volunteers needed for hamfest day.
Treasurers Report: Jennifer, KE8JXD, absent, Tracy, KC8VMG reports expenditure of $40.00 monthly storage fee (Membership $267.30 and Trailer $1,328.25 with Total $1,595.63). It was moved by Dave, W8IW, seconded by Fred, WV8FV, and approved to accept financial report as presented.     KARC Membership to date is 55.

AUXComm: Terry reports nine (9) certified trainers, and Jim WB8YST, is working with Paul, W8SBH to send notification flyer to the WV Clubs related to the future WV AuxCom classes, and the need for the NiM’s courses – 100/200/700/800 to attend.

Communications Trailer: Terry reports as noted above, title is complete and need to move forward with interior layout renovation – Committee - Terry, Fred, Edsil, Rick - more updates to come.

IRS- 501-C-3: Joe, WV8WVU, reports the 501-C-3 is suspended and will cost $300.00 - 600.00 to reestablish. Discussion occurred, related to if needed, developing grants, and cost and will wait until results of the 1023 application has been reviewed. No further action ….

KARC Caps /w Logo: Joe, WV8WVU, has sign-up sheet for caps with three +/- varieties related to logo/names/call.

Field Day (FD) Cables: Clay, W8LW, - discussed prior to the meeting and will check out at FD planning meeting in June 2020.
Nomination Committee: Terry appointed Tracy, KC8VMG as chair. Election of Officers at the December 6th, 2019 meeting.

Minutes: Ann, KA8ZGY, distributed minutes of October 4th, 2019 KARC membership meeting. All minutes were reviewed with motion by Joe, WV8WVU, seconded by Rod KE8KNW to approve minutes as presented and reviewed, motion accepted.

There being no other business, it was moved Joe, WV8WVU, seconded Steve, KD8VNN and approved, the meeting be adjourned. (Attendance 19)
